How do I exclude myself from Ontario's casinos and regulated gambling websites?
Ontario has two self-exclusion systems — OLG's My PlayBreak and iGaming Ontario's BetGuard. What each covers, how to enrol, and what neither can reach.
Ontario is the one province where “I self-excluded” can still leave a door open, because there are two systems and they cover different things.
Two programs, two scopes
My PlayBreak is OLG’s self-exclusion for OLG casinos, gaming sites and OLG.ca. BetGuard is the program for Ontario’s regulated private online gambling operators (the iGaming market). PlaySmart’s help page describes both and how to enrol. If you gamble on both kinds of site, you need both exclusions — one does not automatically cover the other.
Physical casinos and online sites
An online exclusion doesn’t necessarily cover physical casinos and the reverse; check each program’s scope on PlaySmart before assuming you’re covered everywhere. Read it once, carefully, and enrol in whichever applies — or both.
What self-exclusion can’t reach
Offshore sites and unregulated apps sit outside both systems. The same-day companions are the bank’s gambling-transaction block, a blocking app on the phone, and one person told. The first-72-hours guide has the words.
Free counselling in Ontario
Ontario funds problem-gambling counselling; ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600, free, 24/7) routes you to it, and CAMH’s referral pathway describes how treatment referrals work. GA meetings cost nothing. Tell us once and a navigator confirms the options that fit — most free — and makes one introduction only when you say yes.
